Reddit CEO says ‘I am not racist’ after anti-Trump rants

The social media site Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said Friday he is not racist after posting racist comments on his personal page, the company confirmed.

Huffman told employees Friday he was aware of “a small number of posts” on his Twitter page in which he used a racial slur, and said he did not know that the comments were offensive or harmful.

But in a statement, Huffman acknowledged his comments were not in keeping with Reddit’s values.

“In light of recent events, I am not able to fully defend my posts,” Huffman wrote.

Huffer also defended his comments on a Facebook Live video, saying the comments weren’t racist but that he was “not trying to be racist” and that “this was not a racially charged statement.””

For the record, I do not believe the United States is the home of racism, and we should not associate with individuals who do.”

In his statement, the Reddit CEO said he had a lot of work to do to make Reddit “a more welcoming place for all people.”

He added that he would continue to work to make the site a better place for everyone.
