The National Park Service released a video Thursday showing a woman being shot by a police officer during a traffic stop.
The video was captured by a passerby and shared on Facebook.
It shows the woman and the officer standing in a parking lot near Interstate 95 and Maryland Parkway.
The officer pulls out his gun and shoots the woman in the back of the head.
Police said the woman did not resist arrest.
A statement released by the Park Service says the woman was shot in the chest.
Police have not released the name of the officer or the woman.
The Park Service posted a statement on its Facebook page saying, “Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased officer, who was an integral part of our community and who is survived by many of his family members.”
The woman was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, the statement said.
The statement also said, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic event.”
In September, an officer in Maryland fatally shot a man in the leg while trying to arrest him.
The incident led to a yearlong investigation into how officers use deadly force.
Police in Georgia were criticized last year after videos showing a police shooting of an unarmed man were widely shared on social media.
