NFL Players’ Association President DeMaurice Smith announced the start of the annual season on Friday with the announcement of the official NFL Players Union-sanctioned social media portal.
The NFLPA has an official Twitter account, but it will be operated by a private, for-profit company.
The Twitter feed will be managed by Smith and will include the official hashtag, @NFLPA.
The Twitter account is expected to be used for posts about the players union, including players union president DeMurice Smith, as well as updates on the players, the league and the game.
The new Twitter feed, which will be available to users of the league’s digital app, will also be used to coordinate player activity on social media, including Twitter messages, photos and videos.
The social media account will also serve as a “live feed” of NFL games.
Smith also announced a partnership with Twitter to create the Twitter API, which allows the social media company to help users interact with the NFL.
The official Twitter feed is expected in early 2018.
